USF Juniper-Poplar Residence Hall
Project Summary
As part of an initiative to have all first-time college students live on campus, the University of South Florida in Tampa, Fla., added a new residence hall in 2009, equipped to meet the needs of today’s students.
Hanson provided building commissioning services for the construction of the Juniper-Poplar Hall, a 360,000-square-foot multi-level residence hall. The hall features two seven-story towers connected by a single story lobby – an iconic building that will serve as the gateway to the residential district on campus. This new residence hall provides housing suites for 1,050 students along with student support spaces, laundry facilities, common lounges, living/learning centers and study areas. Other amenities include three “smart” classrooms, a 300-person dining facility, a coffee shop, a convenience store and a restaurant.
The commissioning services included development of the Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR) and the Commissioning Plan (Cx Plan), construction observation (equipment installation and start-up), functional performance testing of HVAC systems, oversight review of operation and maintenance (O&M) training and documentation and a 10-month warranty review.
Hanson worked in cooperation with the project team, including Gould Evans Associates providing architectural services and Peter R. Brown Construction Inc. serving as the contractor.
