Confidential chemical company Site Rail Improvements, Storage-in-Transit Yard Expansion, Rail Car Wash Project
Project Summary
A major Gulf Coast Chemical company conducted a plant process debottlenecking project and desired additional on-site rail car storage to support increased rail traffic brought on by a plant expansion. Hanson helped the client increase its production capabilities by expanding its storage-in-transit (SIT) yard by approximately 250 rail cars. The project improved efficiency by removing bottlenecks within the rail support infrastructure. In addition to the expanded storage yard, Hanson developed a rail car wash facility capable of meeting the business goals of the expanded plant.
Hanson’s services for this project included topographical survey coordination; geotechnical investigation coordination and geotechnical recommendation development; project scoping and phasing development; the development of a railroad operating narrative to reflect operations after the construction of proposed rail upgrades and improvements; general track, civil, site, drainage, erosion control and demolition; the preparation of a stormwater pollution prevention plan and support of permitting; Union Pacific Railroad permitting; electrical power, lighting and security; railroad crossing signals; the structural design of overhead pipe bridge modifications, pipeline protection, and direct fixation track; the planning and design of a new rail car wash; opinions of probable cost; project design; bidding support; site visits; construction support; communication; and project management and reporting.
For the car wash facility, Hanson’s scope of the project included time-in-motion studies to determine car wash process, front end engineering designreport, piping and instrumentation diagrams, construction support and commissioning support.
