SR 111 resurfacing
Project Summary
Hanson provided design services for the resurfacing of 4.224 miles of State Road 111/Edgewood Avenue in Jacksonville, Florida, from east of State Road 15/U.S. Route 1 to the east end of the Moncrief Creek Bridge. The roadway is north of Interstate 10, east and west of Interstate 95 and east of Interstate 295.
The project consisted of replacing sidewalk and driveways at select locations, as well as cleaning and resealing the Moncrief Creek Bridge deck joint between the approach slab and the first bridge joint and evaluating all structures to determine if pier protection was required.
Thirty-six Jacksonville Transportation Authority bus stops occupy the alignment, and some were improved as part of the project. Hanson also incorporated a widened curb lane to accommodate bicycles and evaluated 12 intersections for upgrades to pedestrian features, including countdown pedestrian signal heads, pedestrian detector buttons and sign upgrades.
The project also included a field evaluation of 202 curb ramps for ADA compliance, as well as sidewalk and curb ramp improvements at 138 locations to meet ADA criteria.
Additionally, the Hanson team evaluated structures in the project area’s closed drainage system, featuring some open swale ditches and three cross drains, for repair or replacement.
The team also provided public involvement to support the project design and created several exhibits for public meetings.
