As an employee-owned company, we value our firm’s two greatest assets — our staff and our clients. Hanson strives to create a workplace environment that challenges and rewards ambitious, highly-qualified and service-oriented employees who go the extra mile to give our clients the best possible results. These efforts help us maintain our status as one of the top firms in the engineering industry.
We offer a competitive compensation program and a comprehensive employee benefits package designed to meet your professional, personal and family needs. Highlights of our benefits include a 401(k) plan with matching contribution, an Employee Stock Ownership Trust plan and stock purchase program, comprehensive medical insurance, professional development, employee recognition, flexible scheduling and a wellness program.
Health & Well-Being
Our health and wellness benefits for full-time and part-time employees are designed for your convenience and well-being so you can focus on creating your best work and life. Our health plan allows you to visit any doctor you choose and includes a competitive prescription drug plan. You can even save time online with a telehealth visit. We also offer options for dental, vision and hearing insurance. If you join our comprehensive wellness program, you can earn an insurance incentive for your participation in healthy activities.
Medical: Hanson offers a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) medical plan through Blue Cross Blue Shield. You can see any doctor, in or out of network, including specialists, without a referral. Competitively priced prescription drug coverage is included in the plan. Whether you’re at home, work or on the road, you can also connect with a board-certified doctor 24/7/365 through convenient phone or video consults with MDLIVE.
Dental: Science tells us it takes fewer muscles to smile than it does to frown. Healthy teeth and gums are an essential part of your general health and well-being. To keep your smile bright, Hanson offers a quality dental plan through The Principal.
Vision and Hearing Insurance: Routine eye check-ups can help you focus on details and read the fine print. They can also help detect various diseases and health problems years before you would otherwise show symptoms. Hanson offers vision coverage through Vision Service Plan (VSP). When you enroll with VSP, you also receive hearing aid discounts.
Hanson Wellness Program: Own It! Achieving our health goals is a journey, and sometimes it’s not easy. That’s why Hanson offers a wellness program partner that makes it easier for you to face life’s challenges by giving you tools, personal/group challenges and best practices to inspire and reward you for making healthy choices. You can also lower your medical plan premium by participating in the Fit 4 Life Program.
Health Coaching: When you’re creating change, sometimes you need someone to check in with you, monitor your progress and help you set realistic goals. Free of charge, you can work with a health coach who will discuss your lifestyle, interests and goals and create a personalized plan that fits your schedule. Health coaches specialize in nutrition, stress management, tobacco cessation, weight management and exercise.
Health Incentives: As a Hanson employee, you can earn money for making healthy changes. Lower your medical plan premium when you complete a biometric screening and meet biometric target goals. Or earn a premium reduction by participating in WellRight health coaching.
Financial Wellness
Financial wellness is more than a paycheck. It’s about protecting the wealth you have by saving on taxes and insurance, as well as planning for unforeseen expenses. Your Hanson financial wellness benefits provide a solid foundation for building security during your working years.
FSAs: Get a tax break! Pay for eligible medical, dental and vision expenses that aren’t paid for by your health plan with tax-free dollars through the Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA). When you use the Health Care FSA, you will save on taxes — possibly 20 percent or more.
Life and AD&D Insurance: If you’re like many employees, your personal master plan may include providing a source of financial protection for those who rely on your income for their support. Here’s good news: Hanson pays the full cost to provide you with basic term life insurance.
Disability Insurance: Hanson’s short-term and long-term disability insurance is a way to safeguard your paycheck and savings, should you experience an accident or injury that prevents you from working. Coverage for both plans is fully paid by Hanson.
Long-term Care Insurance: If you’re healthy, you may not think you will ever need long-term care insurance. Think again. Healthy people often live longer, and it’s often those people who end up needing assistance. Hanson pays the full cost to provide employees with a base level of long-term care protection. You also have the option to purchase additional coverage for yourself and family members.
Cancer and Specified Disease: When a serious illness strikes, cancer and specified diseases insurance can make things easier. This voluntary insurance coverage helps cover the cost of treatment for cancer or a covered specified disease. It also helps cover indirect costs such as lost income, housekeeping expenses, child-care expenses, special diets, special clothes and prosthetics, transportation costs, meals and lodging while away from home.
Pet Insurance: We all love our pets. For pet owners, the cost of providing unexpected veterinary care could add up to hundreds or thousands of dollars. Pet insurance helps protect you from the risk of these expenses by providing medical care for your pet at significant savings. Enrollment is easy, and you are free to use any veterinarian worldwide at discounted rates as a Hanson employee.
Identity Theft Protection: Identity theft can affect your finances, your credit, your benefits and more. LifeLock monitors your personal information. When activity occurs, you are alerted by email, text message or phone call. If the activity is a threat, a LifeLock identity restoration specialist will help resolve the issue. Hanson employees can receive discounted rates on two LifeLock protection plans.
Travel Assistance: Things can happen on the road. Passports get stolen or lost. Medical problems arise. Unexpected events derail travel plans. Travel Assistance can help you with these issues and more at any time. You and your eligible family members are automatically covered for free as part of your Basic Life Insurance provided by Hanson. Travel assistance is available when you travel more than 100 miles from home or internationally for up to 180 days, for business or pleasure.
Wealth Creation
We pride ourselves on giving team members who contribute to our growth and prosperity the opportunity to share in our profitability. We give every eligible member of our team a stake in the company through stock ownership and generous retirement contributions. Our compensation philosophy celebrates collaboration and shared successes.
401(k) Plan: The Hanson Group 401(k) Plan lets you save and invest a portion of your paycheck automatically. You can choose to make your contributions on a pre-tax basis and/or an after-tax basis as a Roth contribution. Your plan contributions and matching contributions begin on your sixth-month anniversary date. To help your account grow, Hanson will match 50 percent of the first six percent you contribute to the plan.
Employee Stock Ownership: Hanson employees can share directly in the profitability of the company as stockholders without investing their own money. The Employee Stock Ownership Trust (ESOT) is a qualified retirement plan that enables employees to own part of the company. Full-time, part-time and project employees become eligible for the plan on their sixth-month anniversary. Hanson contributions are allocated to all participants who are employed on the last day of the plan year, based on the ratio of the participant’s annual earnings to the total of all participants’ annual earnings.
Company Stock: Hanson is an employee-owned company and encourages employees to purchase company stock. All full-time and part-time employees who work at least 20 hours per week on a regular basis are eligible to purchase stock following one year of employment.
Work-Life Programs
People are essential to our success, so we are committed to a culture that helps our employees develop personally and professionally. Our smart, collaborative professionals spend their careers working on interesting, challenging projects all around the world. All great minds need downtime, so Hanson offers work-life programs to help you balance your life and your career.
Paid time off (PTO): Hanson recognizes that time off is essential for promoting employee wellness. Our PTO policy helps us address the various stages of life that our employees balance daily. We want our benefits to be relevant and meet the needs of our changing workforce — young families, working mothers and fathers and employees who may be caring for an ill spouse or elderly parents. Your PTO is your time, advanced and available to employees in full each Jan. 1 and accrued each pay period throughout the year. Employees with 0-4 years of experience receive 15 days per year, while employees with 5-9 years receive 20 days and employees with 10 or more years earn 25 days.
Holidays: Employees receive eight paid holidays per year, including the Friday after Thanksgiving and a floating holiday. (Employees with a start date of July 1 or later will not be eligible for floating holiday pay until the following year.)
Employee Assistance Program (EAP): We all work hard, but sometimes personal issues get in the way of doing our best on the job. Hanson offers an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with experienced clinicians who offer support, guidance and resources to help you and your family find the right balance between your work and home life. EAP services are provided free of charge.
Educational Assistance Plan: Employee education, training and development play a crucial part in the success of our employees and Hanson. If you work full- or part-time and you are not a special consultant or project employee, you can receive a maximum reimbursement of $5,250 per year for tuition, fees, books, equipment and supplies for courses at accredited colleges, universities and community colleges.
Licenses and Certifications: Hanson reimburses the cost of a wide variety of professional licenses and certifications for employees. For tips on how to study for one of them, the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, check out this blog post by Hannah Engel, a civil airport designer at Hanson.
