Nelson celebrates 15 years with Hanson’s Chicago regional office
OAK BROOK, Ill. — John Nelson, P.E., regional vice president, recently celebrated 15 years of service at Hanson Professional Services Inc.’s Chicago regional office.
Nelson joined the company in 1999 as a civil engineer. Prior to joining the firm, he was a project manager for an engineering firm in Chicago. At Hanson, he became a project manager and was named a regional vice president in 2007. He oversees the operations of the Chicago regional office and continues to manage major highway projects.
He has managed numerous projects, including the reconstruction and widening of a 3.6-mile section of the South Tri-State Tollway in Cook County, Illinois, which involved the design of the Halsted Street interchange; the widening and reconstruction of a 22-mile section of Interstate 90 (Jane Addams Memorial Tollway) in Boone, McHenry and Kane counties in Illinois; and the reconstruction of Interstate 74 through Moline, Ill., associated with the Mississippi River bridge replacement in Moline and Bettendorf, Iowa, a project that has entered the construction phase.
Nelson received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1984 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He serves on the board of directors of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois. He also is a member of the American Public Works Association, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Illinois Road and Transportation Builders Association, the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He is a licensed professional engineer in Illinois, Iowa, Indiana and Florida.
