An energy audit program, executed by Hanson, at the University of Central Florida (UCF) received the 2023 Energy Genius Award from ASHRAE.
As part of a sustainability initiative, Hanson provided ASHRAE Building Energy Quotient (Building EQ) assessments, which included ASHRAE Level I energy audits, at nine UCF buildings. In addition to identifying facility improvement measures, of which 204 reduced energy consumption, Hanson developed a standard operating procedure for UCF’s Utilities and Energy Services, along with the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, to use for engineering students to execute a Building EQ assessment for credit hours. ASHRAE used this standard operating procedure to develop guidance for ASHRAE chapter and student branch volunteers to show universities and K–12 schools a method to develop similar energy-saving programs at their facilities.
The Energy Genius Award honors excellence in building energy performance assessments that use the Building EQ Portal and assessment process.
