Glenwood Middle School
Project Summary
Hanson provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) and structural engineering services for a multiphase project that included additions and heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) renovations at multiple schools throughout Ball-Chatham School District, including Glenwood Middle School. The MEP systems were designed to minimize life-cycle costs. Four of the schools received geothermal variable refrigerant flow (VRF) HVAC systems, which combine two of the most efficient HVAC technologies available into a low maintenance, ultra-efficient system that costs less to build than many conventional systems.
Glenwood Middle School received a new geothermal VRF system to replace the aging HVAC system in a portion of its building. The geothermal system conditions 19,000 square feet of space, and it was completed in the summer of 2014. All geothermal VRF systems in the district are integrated into a digital data control system for remote access, monitoring and alarms.
Hanson also identified and assisted the district in applying for multiple grants and utility rebates that paid for the entire cost premium over air source VRF systems.
