Drone services will reduce farmland impact of proposed wind farm project

A wind farm developer has hired Hanson to map existing subsurface drainage areas for a proposed wind farm project site.

Using multiple drones, Hanson has collected aerial and thermal imagery to identify the subsurface drainage features, or field tiles, that are present within the proposed wind farm footprint, covering more than 6,500 acres. The identified drain tiles can then be avoided or rerouted as necessary to maintain their functionality, which is critical to the productivity of the farmland.

Drones, or unmanned aerial systems, can efficiently, safely and cost-effectively collect data for a variety of projects in the energy sector and beyond. Contact Matt Heyen, P.E., at mheyen@hanson-inc.com to find out what Hanson’s drones can do for you.
